One of the most valuable and fulfilling ways to express our faith is to donate our time to help those in need. There is never a shortage of opportunities to help. Here are some:
Prepare a meal for Westport Community Kitchen at Gillespie Center – Dinner meals for the residents for the Gillespie Center are provided by volunteer churches, other organizations, or individuals. Saugatuck Church is responsible for the fourth Wednesday of each month, and the fifth, if there is one. Meals may be cooked at home or purchased. All meals should be well-balanced and enough to feed at least 35 people. For more information or to volunteer, please contact our Church Office at 203-227-1261.
Become a “Food Runner” for Community Plates – Register as a Food Runner to pick up leftovers at one of their partner restaurants and deliver them to a designated shelter or soup kitchen. Sign up online today.
Drive for Meals on Wheels – Volunteers pick up meals at the Westport Senior Center (21 Imperial Avenue) from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM and then deliver them to the homebound. Routes are in specific parts of town to make it more convenient for you and only include 3–5 stops. Help Someone Learn to Read with Literacy Volunteers of Norwalk – You do not need to speak another language or have a teaching background. Literacy Volunteers of Norwalk will train you in language learning techniques, drills and lesson planning to use with small groups of adult learners.
