Music Program
Since its establishment in 1832, Saugatuck Church has offered inspiring music to accompany worship, as well as memorable concerts for the community. After the November 2011 fire that caused extensive damage to the church destroyed two beautiful Steinway pianos and an Austin 3 Manuel Pipe Organ, the church went through five years of rebuilding. With enormous effort and generous donations, Saugatuck Music was fully reestablished with a new two-manual Klais organ from Germany and two beautiful Steinway pianos.
In addition to the elite instruments, under the direction of our current Director of Music Ministries, Dr. Liang-Fang Chang, Saugatuck now has four song leaders who serve every Sunday worship at 10am. They are Susie Benton (soprano), Alexandra Dima (alto), Anthony DeLuco (Baritone), and Arthur Schoeller (bass). During our Sunday worship services, the song leaders lead the congregation to sing hymns together as well as provide professional choral and solo works.
Youth Musicians
Saugatuck encourages young musicians within the congregation to perform at worship in our beautiful sanctuary. Our young musicians regularly perform during their audition/recital seasons, affording them the opportunity to grow professionally in music from these live performance experiences—and the Saugatuck congregation is always pleased to support and enjoy their musical contributions.
Saugatuck Concert Series
Following the long and isolating Covid-19 years, our community was so eager to get together again that Saugatuck launched the Saugatuck Concert Series in fall 2022. The series hosts four concerts each year from September to June. All the concerts are free to the public and are typically scheduled at 3:00 p.m. on Sundays.
The Saugatuck Concert Series features live music performances ranging from solo classical recitals to professional university/high school choirs, to rock and roll bands. It is our hope to provide these concerts as a gift back to our community, to enable concert goers to have access to professional performances without taking a train down to New York City and paying for pricey tickets.
At Saugatuck, we believe music is a common language, not a privilege.
