Scouts BSA Troop 36
Troop 36 is a Scouts BSA unit for boys in grades 6 – 12. We were founded 70 years ago and are sponsored by the Saugatuck Congregational Church, UCC in downtown Westport, CT. Our program is year-round and features a broad range of activities to engage and develop youth with wide-ranging interests. We have backpacked in the Presidential Range of New Hampshire’s White Mountains, gone rock climbing at Deer Lake Scout Reservation, helped area Cub Scout Packs complete Arrow of Light requirements at Hoyt Scout Reservation, and done service work on Cockenoe Island in our Westport home. Annual trips include a cabin camping weekend featuring board games, a city trip (D.C., Philly, and Boston have been recent destinations), and a weekend biking and exploring on Block Island. In recent years, Scouts from Troop 36 have participated in the National Jamboree at the Summit Bechtel Reserve, crewed sailboats at BSA’s Sea Base in Florida, and attended the International Jamboree at Summit Bechtel in 2019. Meetings are held on Monday nights during the school year at Saugatuck Church.
For over a century, the Boy Scouts of America has helped build the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. The BSA believes — and, through over a century of experience, knows — that helping youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society.
